I've never heard of this happening though.
Basically, the moment you access the internet you are at risk for ID fraud, hackers, etc, etc.
But taking normal common sense precautions will suffice.
Don't let paranoia take over

It does not even need to involve anything as sophisticated as hacking.

Take a look at sites like 192.com and you might see why some people are none too keen on giving names etc.

I agree, this the main reason NOT to sign with my name.
Unless you have a very common name you'd be mad to write your name down on a forum.

Certain collectors of Nazi material (a good collection and a solid footprint on fora) tend to be robbed during their holidays.
I once spoke to a shocked trader on a fair, who had recognised a bloke in another boot. He had seen him taking pictures of his house, a fortnight before his house was burgled.

best regards,

I agree! But the question was whether posting pics could pose a security threat.
The only way to trace where a pic was uploaded from is via gaining access to the server it was sent from or to.

Regarding sites like 192.com and the service they provide, I can understand why some prefer to remain anonymous on forums.

In my view the worst thing about posting pics is that, apart from identifying you to miscreants, they can be downloaded by any person and used illegally. That has happened on this site.

It's a sad reflection on life but some people are either dishonest or downright nutters.

Hi Lampwick,
I remembered your bottom line and this is the first thread I found.

"Please keep me in mind when selling your pre-1947 Indian badges."

Would you be interested in a :
- Zhob Militia badge
- S.M. Burma shoulder badge (I presume Sappers & Miners)
Both are sandcast brass, sandcast lugs and from a 1960s/1970s collection?
I am collecting buttons, not badges and these need a new home.

regards,

Is Brian Jones common enough? Most people seem to think I drowned in a swimming pool while under the influence of drugs. :-)
