Mick I totally agree, only wish that those who seem set on destroying my/ our hobby/ pleasure would find themselves a new hobby, maybe wearing a seal suit and swimming off the West Australian Coast may suit.
My real name is Nick, not Scotch. No Scottish background (Irish/English=Australian, I know dangerous mix). However I enjoy a good scotch whilst viewing my collection or having a good read and so the name seemed to fit. |

In that case, I would go with the Islay malts, they tend to be well peated, but, you have to get a mortgage to buy a bottle these days!

Worth attempting to get a mortgage for if only to see the bankers face when you told them the reason for the loan. |

Alias
I've used 'badjez' on a number of sites but always signed off as Stephen.
My reason originally was to use it as an alias. The job I did led itself to my making enemies and I had no wish to advertise my real name and get abusive emails etc. or worse. My family name is somewhat unusual so tracing family would have been easily achieved. Additionally, why give fraudsters unnecessary information? For the same reason my children never told other kids what I did, nor did I get listed in the telephone directory, voter's register, or join Farcebook, twitter etc. I'm now retired but now having an web-alias that is known I've stuck with it. Stephen PS- when I first used Badjez my young daughter thought I was trying to sound like some rapping American - Bad Jez! I had just adopted it as a mis-spelling of badges. |

My callsign is the same as my long standing ebay account and my more recent medals forum account. My full name is well known to many, especially in London and Bristol, but I tend not to advertise. Because of my job I don't have a faceache account nor do I have any sort of electronic footprint under my real name. This is based on both experience (bad) and security principles (good). My family have a very large electronic footprint, some of which is actually true (although my sister doesn't like the "angel of death" nickname given her by the press)
I always sign off as Ian H, and frequently, as a matter of courtesy with my full name in PMs or for ebay deals. I am aware of people hiding behind an alias on this forum and others but have resisted the urge to 'out' them. Ian H |

Okay, so perhaps use of the word mortgage is a little extreme, but, it is now very expensive!

Mine too is a long standing email account of Longshanks2966 and Ebay account. I use it on all online screen names etc.

I use my own name and I always have. I do not understand why anyone, except those under threat for some reason, would do anything else. Do I distrust them as a result - no I don't; I just think they are a bit sad.

Ha, Eddie that's me told...
I'm from an Irish descent family in Tyneside, with connections to the northumberland Fusiliers Battalions of that name. Therefore my username seems to me quite apt. I use the same username for just about everything, except Ebay where my account was hacked. I do not need to hide behind it and often sign of with Mike. I've sold, bought and swapped stuff off enough people on here (including you Eddie!) to not only show my real name but also my address. However I have no wish for every Tom, Dick or Harry with a passing acquaintance knowing what all my interests are. The Problem isn't with usernames, it's tossers, gobshites, charlatans and internet hardmen hiding behind them. |

I am so sorry if you - or anyone else is offended - that was not my intention. Sorry.
My position is that I don't give a **** for anybody's opinion of me and I don't use a nom de guerre. Others are free to do what they like. Eddie Last edited by Eddie Parks; 06-02-14 at 06:26 PM. |

Hiding behind alias
I don't hide behind my alias. It was always there to protect my family: I can/ have fought my own wars, but others are more vulnerable and need sheltering.

I use a nickname for the simple reason that most sites ask for one and consequently it's simply an automatic thing when registering for a new site to fill in the space that asks for one. As I don't sell anything through the site I don't make any . Incidentally I have somehow ended up with two accounts under different names on this site for no other reason than that I signed up twice in error . My other account is REMEVMBEA1 which is simply the trade I was in after transferring from the North Staffords. Being named Jones makes it very difficult to get a name based identity as most of those I tried on most sites were already in use.

I'm with NorthStafford on this one! When I joined (very recently) it seemed the norm to "hide behind" a user name, so being a sheep I merely followed the flock! Most social sites (not that I am a great user of them) seem to ask for or recommend a user name, even ebay, I believe, suggests a user name that is not recognisable as part of your email address. Perhaps we are all becoming slightly paranoid because of fears over online security! When all is said and done, what really matters is how we use this forum and so far, apart from the odd personal attack or two, I have been very impressed. Regards, Roger |
