RN Artificer & FAA Air Fitter cap badges
Can anyone assist in explaining the differences in RN Artificer (and FAA Air Fitter) cap badges over time?
I would be interested to know as my grandfather served as an FAA Air Fitter during WWII and my great-grandfather as a RN Engine Room Artificer in WWI. I have the below examples... (unfortunately not handed down in the family!) |

Hi
Your Grandfather would have worn the red badge below Chief Petty Officer before 1920. In 1920 Chief Petty Officer's were given a badge with laurel leaves around it and Petty Officer's (confirmed) were then to wear the badge previously worn by CPO's In the Second World War the red badge was worn below Petty Officer, thereafter gold badge without laqurel leaves for PO's and with laurel leaves for CPO's John |
