RN Sennet Hat
Hello to all
May I firstly say what a really great and informative topic this has been. I know that I've learnt a lot from it. Bryan, I was really impressed with the pictures of HMS Monarch's Naval Brigade. They are probably the best pictures of sennet hats I have seen for a long time. I hope you don't mind but I have added them to my collection of reference material. Ry and Bryan - the good news is that I have received a reply from the sennet hat manufacturer. The bad news is that they cost £90.00 ($140.70 Canadian - sorry if I wrote that incorrectly Bryan) each. The cost of postage and package within the UK would be £17.00. And you have to supply your own cap tally. To be honest, £90.00 isn't really too bad for a hand-made hat that has to be woven from straw! Mike - the e-mail address for the manufacturer is enquiries@walterwright.com Pete |

Sennet hats
Thanks for that information Pete, & that price seems reasonable to me.
I know I paid a hell of a lot more for my example but then its quite abit older also! PM me yr email address & I wil send you better & larger shots of the HMS Monarch brigade & the names as well. The pictures on here are way too small to make out any kind of details & Idont know how some members get the larger pictures on their posts. If anyone does get a new sennet made pls feel free to post some photos of it on this topic. RCN Bryan |

RN Sennet Hat
Hello all
As a change from photographs here is a short piece of film showing sennet hats. It's not very long (13 seconds) and dates from 18th May 1901. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vceG7DT4-hw Pete |

Pete,
many thanks for the Email addy. I agree that £90 for a hand made item isn't a bad price especially when compared with other repro items around these days. Mike. |
