Royal Canadian Artillery
I am marking this badge as a Militia/CEF badge. Mazeas has it as a pre-1914 badge (MS.11), Love has a photo in his book of it being worn in France post-1914 and it is in Cross's book as worn by the CEF (Arty general Service 110-1-1. It is Copper, possibly "Browning Copper" but all of the high surface ares are very polished (it looks like in the manufactures process) The ribbon frames, the frames of the lettering all have a polished look.
The Cross ref says there is an Officers version, but it is of superior construction. what would that look like? Mine is a good solid badge, with a decent weight but the back does show it to be a "stamped" badge. would an Officers badge have a solid (flat) back???? thanks Larry

THIS is the horse artillery badge and there is lots of photo evidence of it being worn in France. Hemsely was a maker of this badge and they could do a very nice superior stamping , trouble is you have to get a few badges together and compare .As for a flat back I have never seen one.

I have a Edw VII example that, if memory serves, is gilted and has a pin back...and I think solid construction. Can't remember if it is completely "flat" backed. It's marked...I think Gaunt? Compared to other RCHA badges I have seen I am pretty sure mine is an officer's example.
Not sure if this type exists for Geo V patterns? Not really my area. Last edited by Adam H; 21-04-08 at 12:02 PM. |
