Newcastle on Tyne police
Evenin all,
Does anyone know anything about Police badge values, I got this badge in a lot I bought, I'm told it was worn between 1890 & 1910, saw a lovely photo on a Police badge site showing this badge . Any help would be appreciated, cheers, Wilf. |

Newcastle upon Tyne City Police
This Police Force is well collected - there is a lot of interest in the North East. A helmet plate of this period would fetch 50.00GBP, a night helmet plate 60.00GBP, a white metal cap badge 25.00GBP and individual buttons 3.00GBP. I had the pleasure of cataloguing the Newcastle City Police Museum collection some years ago (for posterity - not for sale) and handled some truly fascinating items - including death masks of hanged criminals. Sleep well. Regards. David

David apart from the death masks was there anything else connected to prisons there?

Newcastle upon Tyne City Police
The vast majority of the prison related items went to Northumberland County Council County Archive Department. When Newcastle was incorporated into Northumberland Constabulary there just wasn't any enthusiasm for a museum with much more than police related items and even that had to be established on a shoestring budget - I am not sure if it hasn't all been boxed up and stored by now. Some County Archive items I know were sent to central Home Office storage. All items relating to the role of Hangman were sent to the Home Office under a directive to do so. Hope that helps. Regards. David
