This one does seem to have some sort of provinence. And the back looks identical to mine, which I know is real!

I know that there were a lot of plaster of Paris copies about at one time.

Eddie,
Yes it looks as though its provenance is fairly sound.I think you should get yours out of the garage if its going for that amount.

If you notice the name of the winning bidder and the seller It looks like its been bid up and the seller ended up winning it! If it isn't just the strangest co-incidence regarding names it's an expensive trick as the sellers fee will be steep! Maybe the're all his bids trying to show interest to entice bids or is it a case of losing out on a £1500 bid to greed?

I'm not suggesting anything about the quality of the goods being sold but I've been watching this seller for some time on ebay. A quick google proves tynesideirish to be on the button as both n********n and his alternate yahoo id of *******8anarchist are too close to 'anarchistn********n' to be mere coincidence. It will make pick up easy though.
(Isn't google great...I now feel I know this seller personally, from his date of birth down to the colour of his hair and his favourite films!)

And the plaque does look right but I'm surprised no bidder has asked what the the weight is - I have heard of these being cast in alloy.

Hi Both,
Having never sold on E B.What if the seller claims that the buyer never collected or reneged on the deal. The registration details of the alleged buyer could be also be false therefore E B could not pursue the buyer. The item could then be re auctioned or am I becoming too cynical ?

Bantam - no you're not cynical! On another point, of provenance, for me "Pat Murphy (or whoever) of the IRA got in from a barrack in 1919" is not sufficient for me. I'd be asking more of what brigade, what barrack, and what date. Especially for this kind of money!

Peter Mc,
Too true.I was discussing E B selling tactics with an acquaintance who admitted that they had bid up on an item they were selling to get a higher price. You just can't trust anyone today it seems a sad indictment on today's society.
