Default Unknown IRISH Arm Band

I have this arm band that is quite old, Victorian, I would say. Has thick thread, letters M, 24mm high, in dull age darkened red. Between the letters is a light blue, thick thread, Victorian type Crown, 15mm high over a HARP, 45mm high, design in same thread. The blue is a age darkened color. Arm band is dull gold tan khaki color and is 3 1/2" high and 12 3/4" long. Had three snap fasteners with only the male studs remaining. Not sure if Military or Police, can anybody help. Jaime will post picture's shortly. Wayne

What about the Monaghan Militia - perhaps an emergency armband for use when sufficient uniforms were not available?

That was my first thought also. Could also be Munster.

I've never seen an example of this item before. However I don't think coming out with the 1st Irish place that springs to mind and adding Militia, is much use. Apart from the fact there wasn't a Militia in Monaghan after 1881, same goes for the North or South Mayo and Royal Meath! so if it was the Monaghan Militia it would have been in scarlet not khaki, which was introduced during the Boer War.

It is much more likely to be a later 'I'm doing my bit' armband like the ARP, VAD or CD one's. If where sticking with the 1st thing that springs to mind I vote for Milk monitor!

You have my vote for Milk Monitor. So, would you prefer that be Tyneside Milk Monitor or just Milk Monitor.

I would imagine the fact that it has a crown rules out it standing for Martin McGuinness.

Snap fasteners were first patented in Germany in 1885, but when were they introduced in Ireland? The crown looks QEII to me as well.
