18th Regiment of Foot Epaulettes
Good day, I recently acquired a pair of fringed epaulettes (see attached photo) which I was told are for the 18th Regiment of Foot (Royal Irish Regiment). Can someone confirm this?

18th Regt., etc.
Hello - Your eppaulette is not 18th Foot - it is not even military - it is an eppaulette of a Lord Lieutenant or Deputy Lieutenant of Ireland - pre independence. If it had been 18th Foot the following characteristics would be present :-
1. The button would be a QVC and incorporate a regimental device (Erin harp) as the 18th existed pre 1881 ; 2. The bullion colour would be gilt as the 18th was a line regiment ; 3. The eppaulette style would be much reduced and would have related to a period earlier than 1881 when eppaulettes were actually worn by regimental and field officers. I hope this information is of help. Regards. David |
