Household Brigade Officer Cadet Battalion - c.1917-19 COPY
I hope it's not Forum members bumping the price of this one up?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2807633533...84.m1438.l2649 It's a copy! http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...sehold+brigade Andy |

Hi Andy
Have read the thread, but not much wiser. I might be missing something blindingly obvious here. The beveled edge? What's the secret? I have one that is exactly the same size as Kevin quotes on the previous thread as an original. I am struggling to tell the difference between mine and the copy? By the way, do you still have the OCB title? Cheers |

Here is the one I have. The rear is a useless out of focus shot, but may be good enough?

Neil,
although the reverse detail on yours is crisp, the tails of the lettering seem to lie below the enamel in places and look a bit thin? Having had a good look I'd rather not pass a verdict! The guide I use is the chain links, if they sit as they would do on a real chain then the chances are the badge could be good, if the links eat into each other (circled in red on a copy), as in the one on ebay at the moment then I'd steer clear! The copies tend to have square edges/rims whereas the good ones have a slight bevel! Andy p.s. title is still safe and sound! Last edited by 2747andy; 05-11-11 at 09:03 AM. |

Gotcha Andy thanks. I am reasonably sure mine is OK, mainly due to the source, and the verdigris on the back, but one can't be too careful. The chain looks good to me
It weights in a 55.5 grams, which is pretty heavy. It'd be interesting to know what the repros are. Must be pretty hard to make I would think? Harder than your average badge anyway.... Let me know if you get tired of collecting titles Cheers, Neil |

I wish I could be as positive as you about your example! As to weight, I shall take it with me to the Post Office this morning! I've had a good scan of yours and Kevin's, it may just be a makers variation but the beads on the arms of the crown look less defined? Andy |

I see what you mean Andy.
The photo was taken with a macro lens. Have just got it out and checked again, and for the first time under a glass. It looks fine to me - I think the focus may be slightly out as the crown head sits slightly back. It's just a bit battered, and I have just noticed the orb is slightly bent. I also looks a hundred years old, which inspires me more towards it being a good 'un. The lugs are split type and look good as well. Colour is different to the rear photo Let's see what the weigh in comes in at. No idea where I got 55 grams from. On the new "drug dealers" scale it comes in at 11.12 grams Regards, Neil |

Neil,
my badge weighs 0.014 kgms on the electronic Post Office scales! So yours may have been on a diet? I think it's down to the lugs on mine as they appear to be rather more substantial than those on yours and Kevin's. Andy Last edited by 2747andy; 05-11-11 at 02:31 PM. |

Hi Andy
Is that 14 grams then? Not really accurate I guess if setup to weigh KG's? We are talking 1000's here of a KG, or 100's?. Now I'm confused, but I think we have a 2.9/1000's of a kilo discrepancy? Someone may know? Want me to send some scales I kid you not - cheap in HK Cheers, Neil |
