Default Royal Navy commandos?

I've not come across these before. Naval style badges with a clear Commando dagger. Commando qualified RN?

Can anyone provide some information please?

Default Commando Dagger

Jon,

I think it is a RM Commando badge, its mentioned in "Badges & insignia of the British Armed Services", May et al, on page 161:

"The creation of Royal Marine Commandos in 2nd WW brought new distinctions. The red (emrboidered) Commando dagger on a dark blue patch was worn on the sleeve by all personnel. "

Then he goes onto describe the various coloured lanyards the Commandos wore.

They are Royal Navy Commando badges, worn by members of the RN who completed the All Arms Commando course. Gold version for No 1 uniform and red version for the old No 4 uniform, not sure when first worn but definitely post WWII. There is also a blue on white embroidered version for the white tropical uniform.

Now I'm back at my computer, a few pictures of the ones I have. The modern lurex type and the red on blue are still in JSP 768 (NSN 8455-99-132-5880 red/blue, 8455-99-132-5670 gold/blue). Unsure about the rectangular ones but included so you can see the variations.
