Good evening all,

I was wondering if you could please set my mind at rest on something ?

My father was a Staff Sergeant in the Royal Engineers 16th ACG and I have his badges set in a small display frame (just missing the war medal ribbon). The thing that is vexing me is that I do not know which way up the ACG insignia goes. Is it red, green or blue that is at the top ? The only image I have found is one from the Imperial War Museum and that shows red at the top. Can anyone please confirm if this is correct ?

Thank you for your time.

I'll pull out a book and check tho' others will be able to say without a look at a book.
(The small red chevrons - they're upside down).

Edit: Boulanger shows red at the top, Cole appears to show green. Id've thought red as it's common to both RE and Pioneers.
And now I've said that - Mills shows green to the top - so I'd go with green.

As far as I know Red is at the top, Blue left & Green right. Examples of cloth & printed versions.

Why the Universal pattern grenades? After 1924 they should be the nine flamed grenade with UBIQUE scroll.

If they are for Sgts and SSgts then they need to go above the chevrons.

If the Gent was a SSgt then a small crown also above the chevrons would be a good addition.

A very nice frame of badges to do with your Father.
Just something I've noted, and I hope it's easily fixable, the red service chevrons are upside down, they should be inverted. I hope I've not caused an issue.

Thank you for all your replies gentlemen.

I inherited them when my father died and I hastily put them into a frame while events were still fresh. I really should have put more thought into it, I thank you all for your input and take no offence. In fact I learnt something today. I was so intent on the ACG badges that I never even knew that the chevrons were upside down !! A small rearrangement and it looks like the next purchase is going to be a set of crowns.
