Default Royal Military School of Music...

Hi,

Does anyone know if the 'RMSM' type badge is still worn these days?

I've been 'Googling', but can only seem to find the Corps of Army Music badge being worn.

Cheers.

I would think that the RMSM cap badge is no longer worn. Prior to the creation of the Corps of Army Music (CAMUS) in 1994 it was worn by Student Bandmasters who would have been from many different regiments and corps. Now all musicians are badged CAMUS in No1 Dress, No2 Dress and Working Dress.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the reply - and the link to your fantastic album!

I was wondering about this particular badge because I have one sealed in its packet which is dated 21/02/07.

In that case perhaps it is still worn!

There was a thread about the badge. I am sure it said there is still a band that wear it.

It was in JSP768 in 2010. However, there are a number of obsolete items in that publication, and, as I have posted before, there are large quantities of badges in packets of issue available on the collectors market.

Having just viewed some relevant on-line video clips I am more certain that only the CAMUS badge is worn. But never say never!

CAMUS cap bagdes came much later than 1994, It was not until fairly recently that the CAMUS badge replaced all other regtl band cap badges.

I think it was with Army 2020 restructuring in 2014 that CAMUS was changed to have a single identity and cap badge.

CAMUS formed in 1994 and a second pattern CAMUS cap badge was worn from 2002. It was obviously preceded by the first pattern introduced at some point after 1994 and before 2002. However, the RMSM cap may have continued in use until 2007+ and that is the question that we would like to answer.

Agree with Alan on this one, i don't think the change happened instantaneously. Regards Mark
