Ae 17 x 4.62 7.5gm. Ascalon Judea. Ob: Laureate bust right CEBAC. Countermark under chin I or T within rectangle. Rev: Phanebal raising sword and holding shield. ACKA KC date code for 116/7 AD. The flan is so undersize most of legends are not visible they seem to have made up the weight by doubling the thickness the coin. The coin was reheated to stamp the countermark this caused a large flat area on the reverse. See post no 298 for Domitian example. SNG ANS 711. |
