Default Malaya Police badge price.

A couple of weeks ago on eBay a white metal 'Malayan Police' badge similar to the 5 pointed FMS police badge sold for over 200 GBP. This week a Straits Settlements Police badge from Barry sold for over 200 again.

I put in initial bids and thought they should sell for maybe around 60-70 GBP. Im amazed at the prices they made. Am I out of tune with the market or do we have a new police collector? Did anyone on the forum get it?

Incidentally, if any one has an FMS Volunteer Rifles regimental medal for sale please let me know.

I'd be wary of buying anything off the guy. He currently has what he describes as a Cook Islands Police cap badge listed on eBay. The item was never worn as a headdress badge and its overall finish and loop fittings have all the hallmarks of a recent reproduction. The same item regularly turns up and is always incorrectly described. I emailed him yesterday pointing this out. Guess what? He's not replied and the item is still listed. So, I'd give him a wide berth.

Dave.

The repro. Cook Islands Police cap badge sold for £32.96. No shame some of these people!

I have a couple of Cook Island ones available for a lot less than that.

I just got a large batch of badges in and I seem to recall there is a Federation of Malaya Badge in there. Give me a few days to catalog everything into my records and I'll send you a picture.

I sold on eBay for years and there's one thing I learned about buyers - nothing is predictable.

It certainly is not a predicator of the true value of something. I once sold a Rhodesia tie one week for £25, the following week the same tie for under £5.

Anyway, eBay have stopped the selling of Police badges (and Military ones too). I see some still manage to beat the system, but even after a sale has been made eBay will still the listing. That act cost me $180 in January alone.

I don't understand this. Thre are lots of police badges still out there on ebay

And I've been told there is a collector wirh apparently deep pockets who is shelling out good money for Malay badges and buttons. Thre have been lots ifbthem over the last couple of months on ebay. Nice stuff too but sadly all beyond my budget.
