over stitched 53rd printed formation pair
I don't remember seeing this on a 53rd formation sign, they are a printed pair but someone has embroidered over the top of the sign.

indeed, and unusual, probably done by a sweetheart/wife/mother though some soldiers did produce excellent work in their own right.

Those are lovely, Jerry, and great to see they've stayed together as a pair. I've seen other examples of over-embroidered printed flashes, 43rd Wessex Div. seems most common, though I saw an example recently of 11th armoured Div.. I suppose we'll never know exactly who, when or why it was done be it personal preference, local tailor enhancement, family or loved ones. But the examples I've seen are invariably quite well executed.

Thanks Jon, I was pleased to get them and if possible I like to get pairs, so getting them together, undoubtedly an original pairing adds. I have standard pairs and these make a good addition. My dad was 53rd div up til 41 and then until wars end, he was TA before and after the war.

Really nice little things those. Not very often seen at all. Well spotted and in the right hands!
