Default King's Liverpool and Welsh Horse.

Advice sought ref these two items bought this morning.
King's badge is near mint (or brand new)
Welsh Horse I'm not sure about.
Any pointers to being genuine or fake appreciated.
Tony.

The King's looks 100% to me. I will leave WH to others but it is not the common fake with the fully voided H.

I'm not of the "IT'S A COPY" gang. The badge is a very nice, all the details are right,
the die is correct - I have quite a few from this die (my lists) Die 11 - dates before 1908 but not much later than 1915/16.

The only adverse side is that it is a bit shiny !?

a nice badge anyway.

Nowt wrong with that King’s badge whatever ‘gang’ you’re in. Just in mint condition even after 100 years.

The Welsh Horse appears to be from the correct die, however, the slider is neither the typical length or shape and the surface of the badge itself looks quite rough.

I note there appears to be damage to the tip of one of the leek’s leaf tips. Is it possible the slider is a replacement?

From the picture as Luke said it looks like a bad repair that's damaged the badge.

Tony,
Sorry but that is not a slider I’d be happy with. I’ve just checked the 4 I have that I’m happy with & that have sliders and note that all have tapered sliders.
Regards,
Kevin

Just a word of caution re the voided H (and W) as pointed out 99.9% of these are fake, but you do find genuine voided one’s that are OSD on blades.

Agree this one doesn’t look right.

Ta

Jonathan

Thanks for the extra snap Tony.

I’m quite convinced that is not a period slider. See my examples here, two have the tapered sliders Kevin refers to and the other a ‘extruded’ slider.

Options I feel are:

(1) cast copy of an original.
(2) genuine but repaired - fixed leek tip, slider replaced and badge re-bronzed.

There is quite a lot of ‘texture’ around the slider attachment, it’s possible this is the remains of a fairly professional replacement job.

Personally given what I can see, those options and my aversion to repaired badges, one I’d swerve.
