Unknown (to me) medal ribbon

Hi, another thing my granny has been keeping safely for years but having no memory of what it is... I'm desperate to know... For her as much as for me.

Are the dark stripes definitely blue, and not black? If they're black, then it looks like the ribbon of the cross which Germany issued in 1934 for service in World War I : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ho..._War_1914/1918

The ribbon was originally designed for the medal for the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71.

It certainly does appear to be the ribbon for The Hindenburg Cross.

Yes, if the stripes are black and not blue as Arthur says, I think the above is what it is - WW! "Cross Of Honour". The example shown above is the "Combatant" pattern, there is also a "Non-Combatant pattern" (without swords) but both had the same ribbon.

There is a third, scarcer, "Next Of Kin" version but that had a different ribbon.

Have you any idea of what the ribbon for the 'next of kin' version looks like? I have often seen the combatant and non-combatant versions but I have never seen an example of the 'next of kin' cross. It would be interesting if anyone has a photo of one.

The ribbon in the original post probably relates to the "Non Combatant" version, the award without swords in other words.

Although the full size ribbons are identical, the awards themselves being different, note from the above that when the ribbon alone is worn then the Combatant version is indicated by crossed swords on the ribbon.
