Default Fusilier Fur Cap Badges

Attached are some Fusilier fur cap badges I have: Royal Fusiliers KC and Northumberland Fusiliers. Lancashire Fusiliers, Royal Scots Fusiliers QVC and Royal Irish Fusiliers to follow.

Purchased about 35 years ago. Not sure if they are original or restrikes. Can anyone verify one way or the other.

Chris

I am no authority on them, but to me they look good, loop type and position are what I would have expected. These badges do not appear to have been heavily faked to date. To help round out the thread further here are my examples - all other ranks,

The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers here with the Royal Irish & Royal Dublin Fusiliers to follow.

This Dub's badge came from a very good source and I am reasonably confident it is a good one. I also believe that both the skins and RIF are good. I prefer the look of your RIF grenade the grenade opening is taller and more regular thena the one I have , suggesting (to me) an earlier badge. This badge continued in use in the Skins and RIF untill after WW2 in the full dress uniform of drummers. I would welcome any comments.

John

Dear All,
Try this link to the RWF grenade badges I posted earlier:-
http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...=7722#post7722
Somewhere in the RWF thread I have posted an angled photo of the lugs at the rear.
Hope it's of some help.
Cofion,
Kevin

John and Kevin,
Many thanks for your comments. I thought they might be OK but wasn't sure of the re-strike market in these.

Cheers
Chris

Very nice badges. They appear to be genuine.
The RRF drummers have kept up the tradition of wearing fur cap grenade badges and gorgeous they are too.

Default WM Northumberland Fusiliers Fup Cap

Nice to hear that they arn't being "heavily"(?) copied.
I have a few FC's - including a WM Northumberland Fusiliers if anyone wants to see a picture of this plus a few others - including a very large RWF S/G version.

David,
It would be interesting to see the large RWF and compare the size against those in my thread on the subject. It may well be that yours is the grenade as worn on the leather apron turn up by the pioneers. These are usually heavier than the FC badges.

Kevin

Hwyl,
You could be right about the very heavy RWF. I'll measure it up tonight and take a few pics - its definitely much larger than I would have expected
We used to live in Brecon (my step dad was up at Dering Lines) and I spent many hours in the museum at the Castle.
Will post the pics tomorrow morning.
David

Kevin,
Here are 3 pics alongside part of a ruler of the badge. What is not obvious is the weight of the thing. I have a few furcaps, but none of them match this one.

David,
Definitely not an apron badge. It looks to be a modern band badge and similar to one I have in my collection. I will check when I get home.
The apron badges have two screw posts to the rear.

Kevin

David,
Having checked it is not the standard band badge.
The PoW plumes and motto are Officers' pattern, but not the make up of the grenade backing.
All the Victorian/Edwardian versions I have are a combination of loops/screw posts at the top and either blades/screw posts at the bottom.
None of my examples have a solid backing behind the flame.
It would be worth checking with anyone who has served in the Regiment in more modern times if your example is perhaps a more recent example.
Cofion,
Kevin

Default Extra Large RWF Grenade

OK and thanks for the info. There is a very, very small indented impression on the back - i.e. like a makers mark - I'll see if I can get a picture of it this weekend. David
