Interesting- similar to my possible 7th The Welsh Regiment.
Do you have an image of the later Lambourne's plaque Luke? I've not seen one. Regards, Paul.

Sure thing Paul. It’s on a WM Royal Scots and Warwickshire Yeomanry.

I’ve just remembered I’ve a BM Royal Scots with Lambourne plate. And stands to reason such a badge must’ve been a WO order and still picked up a plaque.

Why would that be necessarily a WO order? There were TA Bns who wore this badge. The 6th Bn existed pre 1916 s would be a prime contender for ordering it from the maker.

Hertfordshire Regiment with LAMBOURNE & Co plate.

Both Royal Scots with LAMBOURNE'S plate.

The Hertfordshire is also found with and without maker marked sliders.

Also, I am beginning to wonder if the White Metal (W/M) badge is just missing the overlay as per Lambourne's poor quality control?

Granted not absolute but given Lambourne frequently marked their range of badges inc. standard infantry statistically it is far more likely to be a WO order to equip one (or more) of the dozen and a half battalions that came under their umbrella by the end of 1915 rather than the 6th TF.

Also my BM badge has a Lambourne’s plaque so it should post date late 1916. According to the Board of Trade Labour Gazette their last ‘badges, metal’ orders were placed August 1916 and July 1917.

Should it have had a marked slider there would be no debate about a TF scenario, but being a RS and looped that method of marking was an impossibility.

Something I’d contemplated too Andy.

I think they seem rather too common to all be accidents of quality control.

Whilst missing overlay coronets and the odd scroll aren’t uncommon I’d say the ratio is perhaps indicative. Normally the correctly made badges are encountered in much greater frequency to any mistakes, however, I’d go as far as saying the WM RS is more common than the BM version.

Recently I acquired a Lambourne all WM Suffolk which I’m sure is just missing its GM overlay albeit the only one I’ve ever seen.

And are you here saying that it is Lambourne-named sliders only that you have been unable to add to your collection, or named sliders on Herts badges by other manufacturers? I can quite tell from your post (sorry mate )
