Default Trimmed Wing

Hi team

Would this wing be a manufcturers variation and or is there any notes on why wings like this were trimmed.
Its also well worn being faded.

cheers

Phill

This looks much older than my era, but certainly from my time onwards (mid 80s) wings were invariably trimmed either by the wearer or by the tailor when worn on shirts, jumpers and smocks. It was a 'look' thing.

As Royal says it’s all about looking ‘Ally’ - wings are normally trimmed down from the issued item to present a sharp image.

As per the previous commentators, it made them stand out on uniform - Ally indeed! Regards Mark

Thanks guys

Cool term but how or where does the term "Ally" come from?

Your opinions, are these wings WWII era with the horizontal feathers?

cheers

Not easy to date unless you know the identity of the original wearer.
