I saw this article a couple of days ago, thought it may be of interest to some.

Leigh, great article, I notice on the second photo the censor has been at work covering the formation sign.
Thanks for sharing. Rob |

Yes, but the Censor missed the emblem on the front of the Padre's helmet - a design including a cross? (If the man on the left is indeed Skinner, and a Padre. The cross may be a Medic's red cross?).

Looks like Padre Skinner bagged a Dispach Riders helmet along with the motor bike. Is it not a dark coloured crucifix with ' chaplain' or 'christian' beneath it?
Also, am I going mad or is he wearing a German red cross armband? Last edited by bess55; 03-01-24 at 09:43 PM. |

I think you're right re the "Chaplain" wording on the helmet, I'd thought that may be part of the emblem but only now you've mentioned it do I see "CHAPLAIN". I have no knowledge re. the armband. I was thinking armoured crewman helmet, but DR fits too.

German red cross armband - could it be something a bit like this? It appears to have arched lettering across the red cross on the armband on his left sleeve?

The service, duty and devotion by Padre Skinner to the men of the Sherwood Rangers is covered extensively in the following excellent books:
Brothers in Arms by James Holland published in 2021 (ISBN 978-0-5521-7791-7) and By Tank into Normandy by Stuart Hills published in 2002 (ISBN 978-0-3043-6640-8) Tim
