Default Commissariat

Hi

Certainly not my area of knowledge so I wonder if someone can help me out.

Looking for an image (if one exists) of the style badge worn by the Commissariat of Staff Corps circa 1865.

Is there such a beastie?

Thanks in advance.

regards
darrell

Hi Paul

Really looking for an image but happy to pass on your badge f/s info.

Nothing in it for me, I'm just helping someone try and track down some family that was CSC in Canada around 1860's and an 8th Hussar prior to that. No, he was not a Charger. My involvement was that he thought his relative was Cdn 8th Husssars, which put him in touch with me. I sorted the paperwork he provided which clearly indicates a British Army man purchasing his release in 1868 and confirmed as at Point Levis with the CSC at the time. He was not an Officer so perhaps he'd not be interested in buying.

regards
Darrell

Hiya Darrell

No joy i'm afraid, but if you look at my albums you'll see a 1st Army Service Corps helmet Shako plate (with ASC inside garter)

The Commissariat Staff Corps OR's Shako badge was of similar design, but !! with the following changes;

Within the Garter Belt the inscription:-

Commisariate & Staff Corps

Inside the circle of the Garter (in place of ASC):-

A LION standing on all four feet, on top of a CROWN (QVC)

I do hope this helps you Darrell

Regards Ken

Below is a picture of the Waist Belt Clasp of the Commissariat and Transport Staff, the inner Crown & Lion are the same as the badge in question

Shako Plate Badge QVC Brass (OR's)

This image was taken from the book titled;

Badges & Insignia of the RASC, RCT and their Predecessors
by
DM Kellock & MC MeHenry

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=59113

Both badges were worn, and both badges images appear in the above mentioned book. there appears a date below the image, 1859-1869, which is within the scope of area asked by Darrell.

IMO (only)
I believe that the CSC badge is most probably an Officers Badge, worn on the Pork Pie Hat, and this one an OR's Shako Badge.
