RAMC WM
Picked up at Watford yesterday is another mystery that I would appreciate help in explaining.
Crudely cast WM that is larger than the average RAMC cap badge. It has two thread bolt fittings north- south, but there is evidence of previous west-east fittings (either removed from this badge, left -over moulding marks from the original badge, but could just be poor casting). I very much doubt this is Ordnance issue, so why would this be made, and what was it copied from? Looking forward to your responses. Stephen. |

Isn't the one with loops shown as comparison a collar badge?
Cap badges are 42 x 31mm. Rgds, Thomas. |

Yes, the comparison is with a full size OSD collar badge. It is the same size as the cap badge.

Hi,
I have seen these before for sale on the www a few years ago and kept copies of the pictures for reference. I have posted the pictures to show the similarities and differences. They are all cast, either brass or white metal. One has a NS pin attachement and other EW bolts and nuts. Note the scroll "IN ARDUIS FIDELIS", this was only adopted in 1950, so my question is: Where was the RAMC in 1950/51 where they needed cast badges. Regards Steven |

I think this badge will have to stay in 'Don't know' box.
Pete Starling at the Army Medical Services museum cannot identify it either. For anyone who hasn't visited this museum, it is well worth the visit. Pete Starling does very well there as curator, with a good archive. Stephen. |
