Unusual Gloucestershire.
I have a bronze Gloucestershire OSD cap badge in my collection, I haven't looked at it for a while, but I'm fairly sure that it's got the usual blades. I've noticed this badge lately, whilst trawling through eBay, what would this have been, I wonder? a collar badge, perhaps? what do you think?

If it didn't have multiple floors in it from an obvious well used die I'd say it was possibly a reused Gilded officers badge with those long lugs, I'm sure others may have othe ideas though

Gloucestershire Regiment - Service Dress bronze finish cap badge originally with blades worn until amalgamation into RGBW in 1994. NSN 8455-99-130-3720 An embroidered badge was worn in the No1 Dress Cap.
There is also a lugged version which I suspect was a more modern and practical alternative to fragile blades. Tim

Many thanks for your thoughts on this, chaps, I'm normally quite keen to replace any ordinary badge in my collection with anything that's a bit different. I don't somehow think that this is going to be one of those, even the seller doesn't want very much for it, which is unusual!

Nothing wrong with that OSD cap badge. Keep in mind that officer badges have no rules regarding fastenings. While blades are the norm, lugs do occur on these.

No, it's okay, CB, it just caught my eye because it's a bit different.
