WW2 SAS badge on Ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....=STRK:MEWAX:IT
In my humble opinion this is a 1950-ties Belgian SAS badge, I have a similar type Belgian SAS collar badge as attached. JB |

Beret badge
JB,
I fully agree. The WW2 metal beret badge made in Egypt is very different. The pattern on Ebay is Belgian and post war. Sold for just 40 GBP I noticed. The Egypt made pattern looks like attached picture. Best regards, Johan Last edited by johanwiegman; 06-07-11 at 08:01 PM. |

Some one will have to notify Peter. We don't want his reputation to get ruined over a 5 dollar badge.
Cheers, Pieter (P.S. I just added a very nice Korean war era Belgian beret badge to the sales page) |

Hello all. This be my first post. I have decided to immerse myself in the hobby of collecting Special Forces badges. I have no knowledge whatsoever of the field, though through hard work and dedication plan on being on top of it in a few months. Anyway, here's a very similar badge for only 10% of the price! A bargain for someone?

That's interesting, I saw that self same badge a few weeks ago in the junk box of a dealer I know (incidentally a dealer who knows what he's talking about, hence the reason he put it in his 5 quid junk box).
I had a good look at it at close quarters and I'm pretty sure this is the same badge as it has the same missing lug and battered bottom part of the blade. If this badge was mixed in with other badges in a box on a market stall in Barnsley, how can it suddenly be attributed to a named SAS veteran? Ivan |

Hi Sly, welcome to the forum. You will find a lot of people here who know their way through the minefield of SF collecting. Are you looking for anything specific? Cheers, Pieter |

Thanks for the welcome, Pieter -
No, at this point I'll just do some research. I'm likely to focus in on something later once I've discovered a specific interest. Cheers |

WW2 SAS Badge on Ebay
Just to add my little bit,I boughtTpr A Laws group of medals and related paperwork from Peter Taylor in late 1990 and still have it in my collection. This badge was never mentioned at that time when you would have thought the dealer would want them to be sold together to increase his profit margin at the very least. As the e bay description states there are two Law brothers. Just to add some information of my own Tpr G law was killed in an aircraft crash on way to drop on Operation Gain on 16/17th June 1944. At that time he was a member of 1 SAS and had not long been with the Regiment. The other brother Tpr A Law was in the SRS and later 1 SAS taking part in Ops in Italy and NW Europe.
It is unlikely but not impossible that either of these would have a metal cap badge. What is even more unlikely is that given the lapse in time since 1990 it has a) not come out before or b) was not illustrated in Allied Special Forces Insignia 1939 to 1948 by the seller of the badge Peter Taylor. I suppose of course the sister might have sold the badge some time later who knows. Arnhem |

Well that was the quickest 'Dive, Dive, Dive' I've ever seen up for £400 plus and sold for a tenth of that!! Obviously a good best offer.

Why would a dealer specialising in SF insignia sell such an unspeakably rare badge for 40 GBP? It doesn't add up.

Could the answer be because it is not an unspeakabley rare badge?
