Default "THE ODD ANGRY SHOT"

hi guys,

watched a film on bbc2 last night that i had not seen for years called "THE ODD ANGRY SHOT",it was made in 1979 and is about a squad of aussie sas troops in vietnam.the action scenes are short, sharp and to the point.

however the cap badges, officers and men, they wore in camp were bi-metal and looked as tho they had been made the day before.

my question is did the australian sas wear cloth cap badges in vietnam or the bi-metal type shown in the film?.

many thanks

philip

Default Australian beret badges

Philip,

The Australian SAS have always worn metal beret badges on a black cloth background, both anodised and also private purchase bi-metal ones.

In the early days (1957-60) they wore Infantry Corps badges and from 1960-1964 Royal Australian Regiment badges.

For a short while in 1965 (during the Borneo Confrontation) when working with the Brits, they wore a cloth winged dagger badge (British pattern).

From 1965 onwards they have been wearing anodised metal and sometimes bi-metal beret badges, so also during the Vietnam war.

best regards,

Johan

hi johan,

many thanks.
it is a good film if you get to see it and it seems they got everything right as far as i can see.
well almost, theres a fight with some yanks that seems over the top in houmour.
but has the aussie sense of houmour mixed with a army black houmour

I first heard of this film over twenty years ago and have never had the chance to see it until last night.

Shame that I only caught the last 40 minutes, but did enjoy what I saw, especially the irreverence to the jumped up REMFS and the black humour.
Nice to see the SLR (FN) in action again, stuff of dreams.
