A lot of memorabilia of his . I'm not sure,I asked a mate,he wasnt sure. His stuff used to be on display in his pub "The Gunmakers Arms" in Birmingham. Whether he still has the pub or hes RIP i dont know..

Interesting and complex lineage - I think the L, M, and S Detachment structure for SBS followed the split of 1 SAS into Special Raiding Squadron under Paddy Mayne, and Special Boat Squadron under Jellicoe. Jellicoe gaining autonomy on 1 April 1943. The reorganisation followed capture of David Stirling in January 1943.

Did anyone get the veterans name?

I think there may be post war SAS service given the SPECIAL AIR SERVICE Title and design of SAS Wing included in the group.

I say the same name on 2 other family medals of GEARY but dont know if SAS man is the same.

Fitzroy Maclean’s M Detachment when it arrived showed a predilection for the emblems and insignia of military life which excited a certain amount of derision at first among the other detachments’

In addition on Page 123 of the same book Sergeant ‘Tanky’ Geary is mentioned in action during a raid on Simi by Lieutenant Bob Bury’s patrol.

Great quote re SBS insignia thank you. I knew an SBS veteran (a member of the rear party during the big Simi raid) who had little interest in insignia much as the quote suggests. Quite likely a 'one-off' for 'M' Detachment.

On that basis the valuation for the whole collection - not just the SAS/SBS group - was way under (as usual).
