Default Royal Garhwal Rifles Btn Slip On Epaulette

A recent purchase: an epaulette slip on badged to a Lieutenant (former Captain?) of the Royal Garhwal Rifles. The Regiment title tab has been moved from the base of the epaulette to the mid, just in between the two cloth pips, to make space for a formation sign, a dark green/black tab with a white triangle superimposed. Now I guess this is some sort of Battalion insignia? Is there any photographic evidence of such a Royal Garhwal Rifles formation sign? Thank you for you knowledge, gents!

There were 7 battalions of the RGR by 1945, so it is quite possible that this is a battalion designation, obviously theatre made.

The 1st Battalion served with the 71st Brigade, 26th Indian Infantry Div., whose divisional patch was a blue triangle with a tiger stepping through it. The colours for the divisional badge are black, blue and tan [the tiger], so perhaps it was used by them.

Hello Peter, thank you for your reply. On second thoughts, you are right: the triangle is not white, is tan! Alas the tab is rather green/black or green/dark blue, but I can not see any green in the 26th indian Div. flash.

Loupie

Same here, no green, which is why my guess was a bit tentative.
