I posted this strange looking RE badge many years ago on the Forum and if memory serves it got a fairly negative response from one or two members.
However, browsing member Shiny's Military Police album, I saw this image of one of Shiny's Police badges. (I hope Shiny, you don't mind me showing it here as a comparison). Though it is an MP badge and not RE, it does appear that both badges have the same crown shape and heavily stylised leaves, which leads me to think that they are both from the same manufacturer. The RE badge also has a very distinct slider. Shiny's album comments indicate an immediate post war manufacturer in Germany, though this information was just what he'd picked up on the Forum. Does anyone have any other badges with the same distinct features that could shed a little more light on these oddities? Cheers Mark Last edited by dubaiguy; 28-10-21 at 02:06 PM. |

Mark, I have checked my collection of RE GV1R badges and have 2 that are close but not the same as yours. See attached.
If you want to pass it on please PM me. Jerry, engr9266

Hi Mark,
More than welcome to use the picture, as you mentioned I was told it was made straight after the war in Germany, but there's no marks on it. Michael |

Thanks Gents. Certainly a few out there with strange crowns and odd looking leaves.
The more I look, I'm convinced that the RE and CMP badge shown in the first post are from the same manufacturer. Whether that is a manufacturer in post war Germany though, I guess is debatable. Maybe other corps and regiments badges with the same stylised features will turn up in the future and hopefully shed more light on a possible manufacturer and their location. I'll be keeping it as part of the RE collection. Thanks Mark |

I too would hold onto this badge. It does not match the typical fakes or restrikes, with a very strange slider as well. As for Jerry's badge, it is cast in the manner of Indian made badges, not die struck as the badge in question is.

And may I ask what the source of the information was regards the badge being of German manufacture just post war? This may have some bearing on a current and fairly recent of current threads. |
