Hi Alex,

The cap badge appears to be a loose crown above RDR. An artists impression of the helmet plate appears in Curson's book, but it is based on what they think it is and not on the actual badge.

Thanks Andrew. Yes, just wondering if there is one out there somewhere...never heard of one in a collection but there must be one tucked away somewhere!

I note in Tylden the RDR are noted as having worn a leather cap (shako?) - see pic. They seem to have been a tiny outfit, even by Natal Volunteers standards...

Ya, formed in the very early days of the Natal colony, so there can't have been too many available men.
