Dear Forum,
I have been struggling to find images of the reverse of this cap badge. I have a couple of this type of badge with the blades on the reverse and would like to know do I have the 1918 economy version for junior officers, the officer cadet badge or the W.O. badge? If it is the cadet or W.O. badge is there any way of tying a date down other than between 1919 and 1952? I have found one maker's marked example by LUDSKI and on that badge the blades were positioned lower down. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Regards, Paul |

Hi
They are not WW1. the economy WW1 is maker marked below crown and came in bronze and gilt. These are a variation WW2 period i believe. |

Your badge #2 has similar blades to badge #4 in this post of mine: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=67939
This was identified as a WWI example. I haven't looked to see if mine has a MM behind the padding and don't have access at the moment. I will look when I get a chance. |

Thank you arrestingu and Alex
Alex, the blades on my badge no. 2 do look similar to your example and they would be fixed in the same position on both badges. The blades on the Ludski badge I saw were much lower. A slightly more general point. I associate blades with officers cap badges and lugs/sliders with other ranks. Is this a hard and fast rule? I assume not if these badges could be W.O. Cap badges? |
