Please enjoy this post.
hi all, thought i would share this with you all, hope you enjoy it.
Some time ago i wrote to a family asking them if they still had a life size painting of one of there family who served in the first world war. They got back to me with a no, but could i help sort so army bits they have, and tell them what's what. At this point i should tell you that just about every Male member has been an officer, from the Boer war onwards, but at some point before 1938 i family member collected army bits, and the family bits all got mixed in with them. After his death, everything was moved/packed up, until the current owner did something about it. After i had sorted most of it, i was asked if i would buy what's not needed, so i did. the pictures are a brief over view, just so i can get some feed back on some of the items that i don't know about. as i rough guide , most of the Norfolk bits i will be keeping, the rest will be up for sale, once i have come up with so prices. enjoy the photos, |

A very nice lot, but for me the pre 1905 officer's scarlet frock to the militia battalion is most interesting. Post 1905, the Norfolks resorted to their traditional yellow facings. The shoulder straps are missing what appears to be a set of Lieutenants rank stars, which is no problem as replacements are very easily found.
CB PS, just saw your latest post and the scarlet frock may have had Lt.Col rank as he was a Major already when the frock was made. Very nice! The 3rd Norfolk was of course the militia battalion.

The 5th Kings badge is exceptionally nice being introduced by the CO during WW1.
The badge was the subject of an article in an MHS Bulletin by the late Tim Ashley entitled “ in Search of 5 Kings”. P.

Lt Col Shute - CO 5th KLR - ordered privately silver badges for officers of the 5th.
The V type was worn in 1916 - 1918. A later version had a 5 instead of the V. This one was worn in 1918-1926. |
