Paul,

I can't pass judgement on your badge, but here is one from my sin bin.

I bought it as a fake some time ago to fill a gap.

Regards,

Andy

Thanks Andy-looks a match for mine- Not sure if there are any others on the forum. Had it in line to be replaced for some years. Regards, Paul.

This one sits in my unsure box......

Very similar to the one shown in the opening post. No sweat holes, but this time with a "slider".

Andy

Anyone confident enough in any TF Dorsetshire or South Lancs. badges that can be added to the tread?

Paul,

I'm confident of my 5th South Lancs in one of my earlier posts but that doesn't help with the wm overlays.
I have Walter Lamberts 10 Middx which I think looks like yours.
Also have Dorsets similar to KK..
Will send photos at weekend

Paul,

Here are the photos promised.

The Middx badge has a replacement lead soldered slider, so I haven't photographed the back. Because of the solder I can't tell if there is a sweat hole behind the coronet but there aren't any on the Ich Dien scrolls The scroll looks as though it was struck blank.

The Dorset badge looks as though the Marabout honour has been filled, but the strike, sphinx and tablet look very close to KK 1734 despite having taken some knocks. Difficult to say whether KK is genuine blank or filled. The thin edges to the tablet looks similar on both badges.

I have shown this one before, without any interest.........

A nice original badge that has the scroll erased. Someone has gone to a lot of effort on this one, but to me something is not quite right

This one sits in my "not quite sure what with this one!" box.

All the best,

Andy

Andy,

Seems odd that there is polish to the plumes etc but none at all on the honour scroll.

Worn coronets are not uncommon on Middx Regt badges, the badge is clearly genuine what is not certain is whether the seeding out of the honour scroll has been done during manufacture or at a later date?

A quote from the Makers Marks section of the Forum: "The somewhat more low key production of cap badges with the Buttons Ltd mark appears to be confined to the two decades post WW2 , and as yet we have not had a report of a badge design outside of the 1947-65 period, although production of unmarked material is unknown."

Would these badges still be required post WWII? Or does the Makers Marks section needs to be updated?

Rgds, Thomas.

I have to admit that I am of the same opinion as Alan

It's a shame really, because I have never come across a Middlesex cap badge with that makers mark before. Are they common?

Another 4th Dorsetshire. Thoughts welcome. Had a lug replaced in its life.
Regards, Paul.
