Default White metal Royal Scots

A recent acquisition, a White metal Royal Scots, I had to repair it with a new loop, but apart from that it is a good strike.

I would welcome opinions on it's originality, thanks in advance.

Hi Rob,
I can't comment on your white metal badge but can show one of mine for comparison. Has gap above head of St Andrew.
Cheers, John

Default White metal Royal Scots

Thanks John for the pics, I think mine has no gap which may or may not be a good sign.

Default White metal Royal Scots

Having now found my copy of Bloomers book the white metal Royal Scots shown does not appear to have a gap above St. Andrew and is listed as being worn by T.A. Btns.

This does seem to be a bit unclear as to exactly who wore it, but these books were written a long while back.

I've read that some Scottish Regiments had white metal versions of their standard gilt buttons made for use by pipers, is it possible this is a pipers badge?

I believe it is a TA badge but not sure if it is original. There are no alarms but there are also fakes of these, but it is such an easy badge to fake it is difficult to judge. I don't think not having the gap above the head is a sure sign of a fake. The thing I do like is that the one original lug is a good solid and long one, so it may be a good badge.

Alex

The original loop is the one thing I liked about this badge when I bought it, yes, being all white metal it would be an easy badge to copy but without any real pointers it is difficult to be certain it's original.

I think I will keep it until I can be certain it's a fake, thanks for the comments.
