Buffs shoulder title dating question

All,
I have a late Victorian red frock to the Buffs with the typical white embroidered E.KENT shoulder straps. When was the change made to the BUFFS and subsequently brass titles?

According to the Introduction in Ray Westlake's book on shoulder titles, metal titles were introduced: -
1881 - officer's tropical uniforms.
1885 - India service issue khaki drill uniforms.
1907 to 1908 - general change to metal titles. Although in the section on The Buffs he states that the brass title 'THE BUFFS' was worn from 1898.
1938 to 1943 - coloured embroidered titles on battle dress blouse until 1961.

Up to 1881 they were known as The 3rd (East Kent - The Buffs) Regiment of Foot, then changed to The Buffs (East Kent Regiment), so maybe this is when the embroidered title changed?

I have this early frock with the embroidered E. Kent titles which I believe is more likely from the 1890s; certainly not 1882 or earlier.
So, it would appear that these titles were in use for some time after that.
Note the nice early split wing collar badges as well.

Well, it would seem the answer has been found; apparently the change was made circa 1901/2. I know that site and never thought to consult it in this regard.

I’m glad that our series has been useful John. It took a lot of research and communication with many regimental museums, plus several members of this forum provided assistance. The arms and departmental services are next, but Covid and other factors has delayed things.
