Hi Gents,
Not holding my breath with this one but need to put it to bed in the right box, good or crap? Thanks Kevin |

Whilst I do not know this badge very well, the slider does not look good at all.
This is my one and only example which is quite different, which I am not sure of now either. I have seen both GM and bronze versions, but beyond that.... They are usually attributed to the 7th (Ardwick) Bn., but even that seems to be questionable? CB

Kevin,
The badge you show was worn by the 7th (TF) Battalion The Manchester Regiment, that is a 100% fact. What is incorrect is the designation of 'Ardwick', which is nothing to do with it at all and is a sub title of the 8th (TF) Battalion The Manchester Regiment. The 7th Bn. badges were the floriated Fleur de Lys a badge worn by the 63rd Foot, later the 1st Bn The Manchester Regiment and worn in brass by them in the FS cap before Cap Badges were issued. Also adopted by the officers of the 11th (S) Bn. in 1914 with a title scroll below, only in OSD bronze. Also adopted by the 4th Volunteer Battalion The Manchester Regiment in 1898'ish. Worn by them in White Metal then, and when it became the 7th (TF) Bn in 1908 it adopted a bronzed brass version on a slider. There are lots of copies about, larger size, loops and various metals and it has become very difficult to differentiate them all. Regarding your badge I feel the slider is too short and the colour not deep enough on the badge. It would not be one I would purchase. regards
