Default The Wearing of RLC Collar Dogs

Over on the Army Rumour Service there is a thread on the current dress regulations which indicate that RLC collar dogs should be worn "with cannons pointing outward in time of war"
I assume it means simply changing the dogs from one lapel to the other
The threat hasn't elicited much firm information and I'm wondering if there is any knowledge amongst collectors about this.

As pointed out in the other thread, the RLC Dress Regulations state: 'Design as for the Cap Badge with cannons pointing inwards in time of peace, outwards in time of war.'
Perhaps rubbish too, but don't the RAMC do something similar with the serpents facing inwards/outwards?

What a load of cobblers. 25 years a medic and never wore collar badges on active service anyway.

I think you've picked up on the nub of the matter.

Probably a book could be filled on the myths and legends surrounding insignia and accoutrements. Personally, I believe that the story has been pinched from the discredited story of the reversible White House carpet.

But the mystery here is how something that seems such an obvious piece of nonsense could have made its way into a corps' dress regulations.
