Default Sheffield Pals title

In my opinion, members should be aware of this shoulder title which appears to be the same type made for the re enactor from the north west.

This was shown elsewhere but now has an added back plate (presumably to hide the casting marks on the rear) but the cast marks can still just be seen on the rear view.

The front looks polished and gives something away and I would love to explain the other tells but I won't as you just don't know who's watching!

I wouldn't pay £7.50 for it let alone £75 but sadly, I'm sure someone will fall for it.

Here you go Simon.

Note how flat and smooth the rear of the badge is. The one being sold on ebay is not smooth and has a cast appearance.

Unfortunately, when this badge was first for sale, it didn't have a backing plate but now it has, its very difficult to see the rough finish.

I'd better not say what the other signs are as its likely that they will be altered. You never know what people will do with Photoshop these days!

Hello David,
From my experience, Norman was a very sincere gentleman and if he had doubts about a particular badge I'm sure he would have told you so at the time and that would have been reflected in the price he asked for the same.
Regards Frank

I can't see any significant difference between the two shown. (just stating what I see, I'm not supporting any particular view or person!)

It's almost like he's watching every word you type Ivan.

Take a look at the listing again (refresh in case it's cached).

cheers,

Andy

I'm darn sure that every word I type is being watched and yes, I see its changed!

I'm tempted to say what the other 'fails' are in this badge but like I said earlier, any idiot can use Photoshop to change the appearance!

The differences are quite subtle as the copies are made from casts of an original but they are there.

If anyone would like to pm me I'd be more than happy to tell them.

It does become very worrying when this sort of thing start to be sold by dishonest people as original, I have absolutely no issue with copies as long as they stay what they are, but, sadly, human nature always gets in the way, a great pity, of course, for some people, it just kills collecting completely.

Quite right Frank but in this case, the seller ended the sale early so no one lost money by buying a dud.

I'd like to think this was one of those occasions that is victory for the collector.
