Default UNKNOWN - GALLEON BADGE, COLONIAL?

Hello all, good afternoon and a Happy New year.

Took a chance on this one as it was being sold by a seller with other colonial badges.

I have no clue, and wanted to ask. Does anyone have an idea, or have a book on British Colonial badges where they could take a look for me and let me know.

If not, I'll keep it anyway and maybe in time I might find out.

Cheers and thanks for any input in advance.

Simon.

Hello Simon

Nice badge but I am unable to identify it, so not much help I'm afraid!

I compared the ship design to several similar ships which appear on buttons (West Indies Regiment, Canadian New Brunswick Regiment, for example) but the oddity seems to be the little row boat in the foreground which doesn't appear on any button/picture I've looked at.

Some Indian Army used boats on their buttons but as far as I remember they are usually dhows, rather than galleons! That's not to say that badge and button would have used the same device, of course.

Good luck!

Regards
Roger

Nearly put a bid on it myself but decided it was most likely not relevant to my collecting.

Hi Phil, how you; hope all is well.

Most probably not even British, but for a tenner; I had to get it just incase. It's interesting as the lugs were a later addition as it use to have a single fitting in the centre. I'm hoping it might be some obscure State that the Brit's use to own.

Well have to see.

Cheers

Simon.

I wondered if it may be from a Merchant Service belt buckle

Ah, that's a good suggestion Phil. It could have been the centre decoration to a belt buckle or maybe cross belt.

Simon.
