It should be the NSN for the item.

It is the NATO stock number for that item.

The 99 shows it is British.

Also worn by the Life Guards, I only have the Royal Arms badge not the belt plate.

Are these insignia identical in size and fittings to the pouch badge? (I "need" a Kings Crown badge to complete a patent leather pouch, I've had the pouch for decades but never got around to seeking out a badge).

Here is my KC belt plate badge. It has three lugs in a triangle 40mm between each lug. The QC version has the same fittings. Not sure if the belt plate badge and pouch badge are the same. The pouch badge might be expected to be fitted with screw posts not short lugs. Here are some confusing JSP768 extracts about the current items.

Thank you - the pouch I have has three holes for the fittings, I'll check to see if there are clues as to the type, lug or screwpost but as you say, the latter seem more appropriate.

Edit: yes, looks like screwpost, the top hole about 35mm from each of the bottom ones which are about 55mm apart.

Hodges has the size as 8 x 5.5 cm, and the royal coat of arms better centered on the clasp. Could be just makers variations?
