Thank you very much , this came with the Harrow Rifles badge .
The Middlesex regt is a badge ive suddenly got interested in , Am I correct in the following , battalions 1/6 normal scroll 7/8/9 Territorials South Africa & date 10th Battalion blank scroll please ? Regarding the blank scroll , do you find cap badges with erased scrolls an if so how do u tell if the soldier did it him self or the works of a post war imaginative dealer ???? Or is the the eternal question for any badge with an erased Scroll ? very many thanks .

There was no reason for the scroll to be erased. They were issued like that to the 10th Bn from 1908-15 and the other TH wore the SA scroll during those dates.
I would not pay any money for an erased scroll Middlesex. |

Michael.
Good question. I have several 7/8/9th badges, all on a slider...............I have yet to see a lugged example. However, that doesn't mean they don't exist, bearing in mind that these battalions were formed in 1908, from Rifle Volunteer units, I suspect there are some bearing lugs. In respect of the 10th, I agree with Alan, don't go near a badge that has been erased, spurious to say the least. I have examples of this badge with stippling on the scroll and blank scroll, but in each case, Albuhera is not visible from the rear, as it would be on erased offerings. As a matter of interest, I also have a 7/8/9th badge that has been overlaid with an Abuhera scroll, the original lettering clearly visible from the rear. Regards. Brian |

Never say never but I have only ever seen TF Middlesex with sliders. They were produced for wear on the khaki cap so that was the matching fitting for the period of wear.

Hello Michael
I agree with all that’s been said and just to add that yes the 7th8th9th cap badge came with lugs also, I have a couple of good solid old originals in my collection along with the senior NCO’S all white metal with both slider and lugs, I’ll try to post some pictures if I get time ! Gerard

As if by magic they appeared 😁only taken me 3 hours to work out how to attach the pics from my phone !! Anyway this is a lugged badge (one missing as you can see) it’s got a real old feel to it,a solid heavy badge well made and heavy patina , looks genuine enough to me ? I’ve a couple more tucked away I’ll try to put up. Gerard

Greetings Gerard.
Very nice to. I'll keep looking for one. As a consequence of your reply, it reminded me, I to have a couple of Senior NCO's white metal on lugs. One each to 7/8/9th and 10th. However, the 7/8/9th is in fact a South Africa scroll overlay on Albuhera. Thought best I show them. IMG_7747.jpg IMG_7748.jpg IMG_7750.jpg Regards. Brian |
