Kangol Grey "Beret Pattern 1" Dated 1980.
A grey beret, (possibly RAF, QARANC?) it has metal grommets through which to affix a badge and a fold down badge backing.
It bears the marking "Beret Pattern 1", which I have not seen in a beret before. |

Could it be a beret aimed at those re-enactors who represent Polish Airborne in WWII? 1980 would be an early date for such a market but it’s the right shade of grey.......(although the grommets would not fit the single-post Polish eagle beret badge used in WWII). Just a guess on my part.......

Thanks for the suggestion, never say never but as you say there are points against that being the case.
Some eagles, eg the plastic economy badge may fit the grommets, it hadn't occurred to me to check. I have a few original Polish Para items but unfortunately no berets - they're on my extensive want but will never afford list. |
