Royal Army Medical Corps Officer's Forage Cap, 1914 Dated.
A nice little cap - the insignia are gilded, the badge is a w/e bladed one piece with some silver plating remaining on the scroll and rod of Asclepius.
The crown is "set up" at the front by a hinged strut. The sweatband is stamped to the tailors and outfitters R.W. Anderson & Sons, of Coney Street, York. Not shown in the photos is that it is ink stamped "23 March 1914" inside the sweatband (I'll dig out a photo I took of it a while back rather than risk causing damage by peeling back the sweatband again). The maroon / cherry fabric is that shade but appears more of a scarlet colour in the photos. |

Nice Leigh. Could anything be done to restore the peak ?

It could be rubbed down and relaquered or cammed up with a bit off boot polish but I tend towards leaving as is.
When I took the cap out of its bag to take the photos I was surprised as I didn't remember the congealing and flaking on the peak, but it must have been like that when I got it. |

Yes, I like it - especially with the 1914 date.

Thanks, it really is a favourite of mine along with the SWB field officer's forage cap of the same era that I posted in another thread.
Little gems in my sea of post WWII caps and berets. |
