Smile Suffolk Regt Museum

The museum (IWM) at Duxford houses the Royal Anglian Museum and The Cambridgeshire Regt museum, although some of the Cambridgeshire items are housed at a small museum at Ely near the Cathederal.

The Suffolk Regt has a display at Moyses Hall on the market square in Bury St. Edmunds as well as the museum at The Keep.

I hope this helps.

Not necessarily a guarantee of provenance as many museum's collections include donations of badge with no provenance at all and they are not always correct.

I know that well enough Alan,a friend of mine is the researcher at the Staffords museum in Lichfield. There is a S.Staffs cap badge in one of their displays,i was curious as to whether it was marker marked or not. It wasn't btw.

Mike

It's all too common. I was in one of the Normandy museum's a few years ago and there was a donated collection on display that was full of restrikes. The AAC museum at Middle Wallop has a similar collection on display.

It would be nice to find a sealed pattern card of an a/a Suffolks but I think I am correct in saying that authorisation for production did not result in a sample being made. Hagwalther may be able to elaborate,

Alan

Cool QC Suffolk badges

It's doubted whether the QC Suffolk bi-metal badges were ever worn, so the chances of an A/A being worn are remote IMO.

Would I be correct in assuming that the KC badge continued in use with 4th Bn. TA between 1958 and 1961 or did the QC bi-metal badge get a look in before they merged with 1st Bn. Cambridgeshire Regiment?.

Yes, I heard that somewhere as well. There is photographic evidence of this being the case apparently.

https://www.friendsofthesuffolkregim...8-archive.html

This backs up the view that the a/a Suffolks are fakes.

Such an interesting site, I havn't made it to the anodised badge, I've been told no, I can't have a Universal Carrier, I don't have 1/6th scale figurines but I like the "Surrendering Suffolk", interesting info. on Mess Dress.

I'll make it to the badge some time.

As I read the item, the implication is that a current spate of the anodised badges for sale are likely to be fakes.

The comment about these badges probably being produced from the Birmingham Mint collectors series of badges dies - is that likely, given that the Birmingham Mint badges are "metal" not anodised aluminium?

(I'm not promoting the idea that the anodised aluminium badges are one thing or the other, genuine or fake, I don't know).

Default Suffolk Regiment - Birmingham Mint

It may be relevant that the QC Suffolk Regiment in the Birmingham Mint set seems only to have been made in bimetal finish. The majority of the badges in the 52 badge set were in silver gilt finish emulating officer quality badges.

Cool Suffolk Regt site

Thanks Alan for putting this up, very informative about A/A Suffolk badges, almost certainly being faked.

Also a little further on is an article about cloth combination badges with some good pointers into what's right and what's faked.
