Default Byron Scottish

Hello gents,

I have this Byron Scottish badge. It's kind of a frosty silver obverse. Reverse is marked "Stokes"

There are 3 lugs...is this normal for a cap (glengarry?) or is it a different type of badge?

I think it's nice looking.

Any idea what a trade value would be? I am getting all my non-Canadian badges IDed and valued to hopefully do some swaps. Only similar sounding one I have encountered was on the IS Wright auction, will try to find the description again.

Here are the pics.

Cheers,

Adam

Here's the test from the IS Wright auction catalogue:

C315 1948-53 Byron Scottish Regt, 41st Infantry Battalion Hat badge. W/m 3 x lugs. Retains the white frostinf finish. Grade II+ $175

Sounds similar? No indication that particular badge is marked.

Hi Adam,

I would consider it to be worth around the AUD $100-$120 mark.

For an Australian badge, its unusual to have 3 lugs - the majority only have 2.

Hi Mick,

Thanks for your insight, very much appreciated! I picked up on you saying IS Wright tends to be high priced.

Not looking to squeeze every cent out of these traders I have, but good to know a rough estimate.

Thanks once again,

Adam

Adam,

Both of my Bryon Scottish have three lugs, one at the top and two on either side, exactly as yours. It is a large badge and 25 years ago Cossum priced it near the upper range of prices for infantry hat badges of that period - 1948 -53. Lowest was $16, (Kennedy Regiment), highest was $40 (NSW Scottish, Moreton Regiment and Royal Melbourne Regiment) and the Byron Scottish was $30 along with the St George Regiment, Central Queensland Regiment and Adelaide Rifles It is one of the more expensive badges for that period. I cannot give a suggested price but the OLD prices above might give you a measure by comparing current prices of each.

Cheers
Chris

Chris,

Thanks kindly for taking the time to pass on that information. I haven't got any references on Australian badges per se, so those details were very welcome indeed.

Cheers,

Adam

I wouldn't mind finding out if this badge was worn on a Glengarry or a slouch hat. Does anyone know?
