Possibly a rosette used in a competition within the regiment awarded for a sporting or equestrian event?

Victorian Boer War Inniskilling Dragoons Slouch Hat Rosette :

Quote:
This comprises of a bi-metal collar badge, centrally on a rosette of green, yellow and burgundy silk, with a hessian central backing.

EDIT : Although the front looks more worn than the one in the link , the rear looks identical !

That description is from the seller of the rosette and is the item shown in the opening post.

Is the identification correct?

Someone hasn't looked after it since it was bought from the seller, the black material has deteriorated massively.

Yes I see that it is actually the same badge as the one I bought yesterday . Its a crying shame that it has deteriorated in this way , but I didnt buy it from Sargent Militaia , I bought it from someone at the Leeds arms fair yesterday ( a punter not a dealer ! ) . I didnt pay very much for it , and bought it on a whim , hoping it was what it appears to be.

Default Boer War

Don’t know if it’s BW or not but not sure I’d trust the dealers knowledge. Just saying like.

The silk may be so brittle just moving it around perhaps in the post it would disintegrate.
