Just looking through my notes there is one other precedent for the wearing of privately purchased metal badges by the TF on FSH.

That is the 2nd Bn 14th Bn London Regt whose CO authorised the wearing of reduced size London Scottish badges on their pagris in Palestine from 1916. These were Gaunt made.

Said badge... J R Gaunt, bronze badge, specifically made at the behest of Colonel Ogilby, in 1917, for the 2nd Battalion, and worn on the front of the puggarees of the sun helmets:

Size comparison with glengarry badge (below):

I wonder if there were other units who had unofficial, CO-approved badges?

I took some pictures last night. I will post them a bit later on.

Nozzer,

Other than the unvoided halo and the so-called 'extruded' slider (apologies Phil ), your badge is identical to the badge in your linked thread. Same die, I'd say.

Thanks for the extra pics.

It would seem that these badges are being faked. Another one below, again with an unpierced halo and this time an ever so dodgy shank maker marked F. E. WOODWARD B'HAM

Hi Chaps,

Just spotted this thread (must have missed it earlier). But for interest here is a photo I have that shows a collar badge being worn on the pagri. I have shown this before on the forum and it was concluded to be the Royal Sussex Regiment (collar badge).

Cheerio,

Roy

Thanks for posting, Roy. These pagri/FSH badges are a fascinating subject.

Regards,

JT

Agreed: fake 'Woodward' mark.

Thanks for posting that, Andy.
