Cape Mounted Rifles
G'Day from Queensland,
I am a new to this forum and an unsure on how to go about this. I have a photograph on a Cape Mounted Rifleman that was taken in 1897. He is wearing a pouch-belt that has a badge on it. Unfortunately the details of the badge are not very clear. I was wondering if anybody could help me out with a copy of a photograph of the badge, or perhaps can point me in the right direction of where I can find more information about the unit and the badge. Thanks very much. |

Hi Boots,
If you can post a picture of the photograph you have, then we can try to positively identify it and re-post a pic of the badge. Steven |

Hi Boots
The belt plate would probably have been a crowned 8-pointed star with a bugle horn in the centre, but if you can post a photo it'll help. There's an article on the CMR on Wikipedia, which gives a general background to the regiment : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Mounted_Riflemen

Hi Boots,
Here is a picture of the CMR crossbelt badge as on your photograph. This is Owen #150. Steven |
