48RMC cash tape

Hello fellow collectors,
Two weeks ago i have bought via Ebay.uk from a well-known dealer from the UK these cash tape titles from 48RMC what do you think do they make a change??

Hi Christian,I'm no expert but that looks to me like original Royal Marines and commando cash tapes married up with a modern '48' cash tape numeral,just my opinion of course,cheers,

Yes you are right both titles are original specimens but it's the number that makes it expensive as you know not the common things like Royal Marines and Commando titles. I paid 150 pounds for this set was offered as original ww-2 so i think i'm really screwed don't you think so????? If i had to paid 150 pounds for a original 48 title i would be pleased but in this case The seller is willing to refund mine money minus postage cost and Paypal fees which means that i lost approximate 20 pounds,......expensive lesson if you know that it was not mine fault!!!!

Hello the modern name tapes are about 12mm the originals are 18mm but sometimes are folded slightly, Andrew

Hello Christian,
Am not personally expert enough to render a definitive judgment. However in 1981 I was gifted a complete set of righteous Cash & Co. Royal Marine title/numbers by Roy Turner, ex- serving Royal Marine Commando (45 RM Cdo – Malaya and Aden), world acknowledged expert (airborne/special forces insignia), author, and senior member of Chute & Dagger Society.

Will attach a couple of photographs of the set. Unfortunately being mounted in a frame precludes seeing the backsides. Hopefully you can make a side-by-side comparison. Every time I try and upload high resolution photographs on this forum, it is with trepidation due to band-width/memory limit issues. No problem this time, able to upload the first time. You can either enlarge or crop and enlarge for, more detail without loss of resolution. Hope these images are of some assistance.

Addendum: If the 12mm vs 18mm criterion is correct; apologies, and stand admonished, as all of mine are nominally 12mm in width.

Easiest way to tell original cash tapes from post war or copies when merely looking at pictures is the gap between top & bottom of the letters/numbers and the edge of the tape.

Originals have a wider gap.

Have attached a picture of my own ones in my display. The Royal Marines/Commando tapes and numbers 41, 42, 44, 45 are originals, numbers 47, 48 are not.
Think/hope you can see the difference in the gaps in this picture.

P.S. If anyone has originals of 43, 46, 47 & 48 feel free to give me a shout! Even copies of 43 & 46 to complete the display would be appreciated

As I said in my post, I was talking of a means to decipher the real ones when you're looking at a picture rather than having them in your hand to measure or compare with other known real/copy ones

It was there Mike but looks like the thread was unpicked at some time, reason unknown, the numeral though original was added by me, the other items came complete, cheers,
